Documentary Interview Plan

For this Documentary Interview Project, our group's expert interview will be with Jason, a tattoo artist at Hardwire Tattoo. We will be shooting inside and right outside the Hardwire Tattoo shop for our vox pops. The tone we will set with our subject is the emotional ties with tattoo meanings and the art associated with it. We want the viewers to understand that tattoos are more than just ink on a person’s body. After they see this short documentary, we want the viewer to develop an open mind to the emotional meaning behind the art.

10 questions for the expert:
1)    How long have you been tattooing?
2)    What is your favorite style of tattooing and why?
3)    What does it mean to you to give another person a significant piece of artwork on their body?
4)    What inspired you to start tattooing?
5)     What is your favorite tattoo?
6)    What is the meaning behind your favorite tattoo?
7)    What is your favorite tattooing story?
8)    What would you say to someone who has negative thoughts toward tattoos?
9)    What is the story behind your first tattoo?
10)  What is the story behind doing your first tattoo as an artist?

We will be doing our vox pops with costumers walking in to the shop or people we see walking past the shop who have tattoos.

Vox Pop questions:
1)    What is your favorite tattoo?
2)    What is the meaning behind your favorite tattoo?
3)    What would you say to someone who has negative thoughts toward tattoos?

Light Observation #2

I was walking my dog on the beach one evening as the sun was setting and I noticed all the peculiar effects it created on the shore. Not only were the vibrant colors of orange, pink, and purple breath-taking, but the silhouette effect it made with objects, such as people, dogs, etc., produced an interesting contrast. The figures in the foreground appeared black and glow with the sky’s beautiful colors. Another effect that the sunset created was a reflective shimmer from the ocean. The colors of the sky were also seen in the rolling waves. It was a mosaic effect as the waves crashed onto the sandy shore, reflecting little sparkles of the sunset-lit sky.

Light Observation #1

I was at church with my family Sunday morning where I usually fall asleep but I noticed the enchanting effect the stained glass windows made during the service. The colors brought life into the building and created a glowing and even unrealistic feeling. The lighting made me feel as if I was in a fantasized atmosphere. I do not consider myself a religious person, but the stained glass lighting made me experience a somewhat spiritual feeling. It was calming, comforting, and enlightening. The lighting made me think and appreciate all the little parts of life that hold so much beauty.

Filmmakers Statement

Some film related experiences I have had is producing a video for the FYSA program for UNCW, producing a 15 minute film based on Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”, creating and leading Movie Critics’ Club in my high school, and producing commercials for my high school’s T.V. Studio morning announcements. I have not had any experience on the set of an actual production and would love to do so. That is another reason why I moved down to Wilmington because filming is becoming so popular here.
In this course, I intend to learn all the skills required to make motion pictures to tell stories in the most fascinating way. Film has been a passion of mine since I was ten years old.  While I have always been a fan of the arts, my love for movies began when I saw Pirate’s of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl for the first time. The film industry appeared to be pure magic by making an imaginary story feel real to me. From that moment on, I decided to put all my effort into pursuing a career as a film director. With that goal achieved, I intend to make films to create a vision of my own. Films have become a huge part of my life.  I watch movies every moment of my spare time. I never get bored of films because I see something new or different with each viewing whether it be the cinematography, camera movements, casting, lighting, or other intriguing aspects that make every film unique.
In ten years I hope to be involved in the business of motion pictures. I really want to become a film director at the moment, but who knows, I may find a love for editing, cinematography, or even screenplay writing.
Something unique that most people don’t know about me is that I have a blue iguana. Her name is Calypso and I love her so much.
